Most countries do show men as more “expendable” than women. For instance, the draft in most countries that have them only draft men. They can still take women if they volunteer, but men are forced to go. Same with countries like thailand (and I believe korea) that demand every male serve after at least once when they turn into legal adults. It was defended long ago that women are needed for birthing children and child care. But today, we are overpopulated so birthing children isn't a big issue, and we have long since proven that men can raise children in the absence of a female guardian. Still, these points were brought up in the very recent discussion of if women should be drafted as well. Equality in drafting was shot down.
Men lead in almost every major cause of death in the US (All but one and typing in another), on top of naturally lower life expectancies. The US for instance, gives a disproportionate amount of money to women’s research. Breast and prostate cancer have almost identical death and diagnosis rates, but breast cancer research gets many many many times the funding that prostate cancer research does, both public funding and government funding. public funding is based on the feelings and preferences of the public, but government funding should be based on need and data.
I cannot speak for women, but most men are taught to put women first. I was not taught to “not hit anyone”, I was told “don’t hit girls”. Even in forms of self defense (and even against weapons), men tend to refuse to hit back. While the whole “women and children first” thing is not an official rule for emergency service units (firefighters, police, etc), that is generally the order in which people are saved, depending on the situation (as in if both are in equal danger and it takes the same amount of time to save them, the man is typically last to be saved). It is also seen in society that public displays of domestic violence tend to gain sympathy mush more often for male on female domestic violence vs. female on male domestic violence. In fact, most public studies have basically the same result, where onlookers (filmed) laugh at the same situation a man is in, compared to immediately helping the woman when she is instead the victim.
From a societal and government standpoint, men are typically seen as more disposable. There are many more (wordy and complicated) examples and points, but this is just to be concise. This isnt to say that women do not face scenarios where their health or life isnt the main focus, but in general, men are the ones seen as disposable. There are actually a lot of papers on the subject of the concept of the “disposable male”.https://www.quora.com/Are-men-less-valuable-than-women
